Call for Applications: 2025 OYCF-Stilwell Fellowship on US-China Relations

Overseas Young Chinese Forum (OYCF) is pleased to announce the new OYCF-Stilwell Fellowship on US-China Relations is now open for applications through May 30, 2025.

We welcome applications from students, scholars, professionals and practitioners who engage in research and/or public-facing projects that explore US-China exchange. 

One to two fellowships, ranging from $5,000-10,000, will be awarded in each cycle through a selective process. For eligibility and application details, visit https://oycf.net/stilwell.

    OYCF 2024 Annual Meeting

    OYCF is pleased to share our fall 2024 newsletter after a successful annual meeting and celebration of our 25th year anniversary.

    Fellowships

    OYCF's fellowship programs aim to encourage fieldwork research in China and advance understanding between the U.S. and China.

    In 2018, we established OYCF-Chow Fellowship program to support graduate students in field research in China.  Since then, over thirty PhD students from North American universities have received support from OYCF for their fieldwork research.

    In 2024, we announced OYCF-Stilwell Fellowship program, a new initiative to support students, scholars, professionals and practitioners who engage in research and/or public-facing projects that explore US-China exchange.

    Student Engagement Grant

    Relaunched in 2024, this initiative supports student groups in creating local spaces for educational activities related to China that also promote meaningful discussions, engagement and connections. We encourage projects that foster a deeper understanding of Chinese culture, society, history, and current affairs across diverse disciplinary backgrounds.

    We offer two types of small grants to support activities and initiatives that are creative, inclusive, and academically enriching: Single Event Grant accepts applications on a rolling basis; Program Grant accepts applications once a year.

    Annual Meeting

    OYCF organizes an annual meeting each spring or summer, which is the most important event for the organization since its founding in 1999. Known for its intellectual rigor, passionate participants, and informal character mixed with recreational activities, the OYCF annual meeting typically lasts 1.5 to 2 days. The meeting brings together OYCF members from around the world to network with new members, students, local residents, and others interested in the topic of the annual meeting.

    Social Innovation

    Social development in China is one important area of focus for the OYCF members. In 2016, OYCF established an annual social innovation award to encourage volunteerism and social entrepreneurship, and to promote civil society exchange between the U.S. and China.

    Due to COVID and difficulty for the selected Chinese teams to travel to the annual meeting, this program is in abeyance after the 2019 annual meeting.

    Not a member yet?

    Anyone who is above 18 and who has lived in both China and overseas for one year or more is eligible for membership in the OYCF. Endorsement or reference from a current member is generally required.
